Don't Be Grossed Out!
Try These Apple Cider Vinegar Drink Recipes

I've had a few amazing apple cider vinegar drinks in restaurants and have bought a few in health food stores, and that has inspired me to make my own.

Drinking vinegar has been a popular health food trick for thousands of years, and has been shown to have tons of health benefits of vinegar. In the early 2000s, Japanese retailers started selling vinegar drinks to take advantage of the growing fad. Vinegar drinks are just starting to gain in popularity in Western countries.

Shrubs are the latest fad, and they are cordials made with fruit and vinegar rather than alcohol. These apple cider vinegar drinks benefit from time marinating and get stronger and more intensely flavored. You can make a big batch at home and use them over the course of a few weeks.

I highly recommend you use good vinegar when you make shrubs or vinegar drinks. My favorite brand is Bragg's, and I buy their organic, unfiltered, raw apple cider vinegar

If you're pressed for time, you can always make vinegar drinks by just adding a few teaspoons of vinegar to water and sometimes sweetening it with your favorite liquid sweetener. If you take it three times a day, you will be sure to get all the health benefits of vinegar.

Check out the drink that made me fall in love with adding apple cider vinegar to drinks, my version of the Concord Grape Apple Cider Vinegar Drink.

Lemon Ginger Shrub

Here are a few apple cider vinegar drink recipes:

Ginger Shrub Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup ginger, finely minced
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup sugar

Directions:

Heat the ginger and the vinegar in a medium saucepan over high heat until it begins to boil just around the edges. Transfer it to a glass storage container and allow it to cool. Once cool, cover it and let it steep for at least 24 hours at room temperature.

Strain the ginger out of the liquid for a few minutes, but don't press the liquid out of the ginger.

Put the liquid in a medium saucepan and add in the sugar. Bring it to a boil over medium heat, and then reduce it to low to simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally.

The shrub syrup is now ready, so allow it to cool and store it in the refrigerator. When you're ready to serve it, use it at a ratio of 1 parts shrub syrup to 10 parts liquid. You can add it to water, juice, soda, or lemonade.

Berry Shrub Recipe

Ingredients:

1½ cups raspberries or blackberries (or a combination)
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup sugar

Directions:

Heat the berries and the vinegar in a medium saucepan over high heat until it begins to boil just around the edges. Transfer it to a glass storage container and allow it to cool. Once cool, cover it and let it steep for at least 24 hours at room temperature.

Strain the berries out of the liquid for a few minutes, but don't press the liquid out of the berries.

The berry shrub is delicious added to ginger ale or lemonade, as well as water.

You could make a blueberry shrub, but you need to use 2/3 cup apple cider vinegar in the recipe.
