Soy Is Only Evil in the Hands of Man
by Nia Garcia
(NYC)
Soy beans/products are a staple in societies much older and healthier than Western nations. Westerners have recently heralded soy as a superfood because of its health benefits, but we've known about it for many years. (Soy is even mentioned in the 1929 edition of the book Back To Eden .) Soybeans are a healthy addition to any diet, just like many other beans that we are already familiar with. They are protein and isoflavonoid packed and are easily assimilated by vegetarian animals like humans. Because they are part of the plant kingdom, it's easy for companies (like Monsanto) to manipulate them. It seems logical to think that if you eat soy the way God made it you will reap all the health benefits that so many societies have for thousands of years; but, if you eat it the way big industry has made it you may reap all the consequences associated with doing such. For these reasons, I am not afraid of edamame, miso, soy sauce, tofu or any of the like. I eat them as I would anything else with a healthy balance in mind.

GMO should be banned
by Stan
(Atlanta, GA)
I think you should research GMO's a bit more, especially since the soybean crop is now about 80% GMO. People really need to be warned. GMO's have been banned all over the western world, for good reason. Here's a link to a great resource.

Also, check out the documentary "The Future of Food" on youtube. Scary.

Clear-Cutting for Soy
by Lily
I think it is critical to distinguish soy grown for human consumption and soy grown to feed animals in CAFO's and other confinement settings. It is the latter which is responsible for the clear-cutting of forests. More than enough soy is grown on arable land, even if everyone switched from meat to soy, that clear-cutting would be totally unnecessary if it was only grown for human consumption.
