I give up on eating healthy!

by Sonia
(Birmingham, Alabama)

I've heard all sorts of things. I do not take soy protein powder, but I do substitute it for everything that has milk. I am not convinced that it is any worse for me than anything else in this imperfect world of food. It seems that no matter what I try to do, I become VERY frustrated with trying to eat a healthy diet!

I found out that I have allergies to LOTS of my favorite things (milk, tea, chocolate, and eggs!) which are hard enough to avoid in the typical American diet, and now this?!

I give up!

Common Sense
by: Anonymous

Hi Sonia!

You are right about trying new things and then being told that the new thing is bad. No matter what it is there will always be the "nay" sayers so, I use my common sense. I think that watching Americans get fat and sick from consuming what Americans consume most: Meat, Cheese and other animal products and then watching other civilizations with less money and less advanced healthcare live long healthy lives consuming mostly vegetables, fruit and Soy for the last couple of thousand years is the answer to that issue. And in educating oneself on nutrition there is no one complete food so, round it out and try nut and seed milks too. And to keep it really healthy-try making your own. Good luck!

I know how you feel!
by: Cathleen

Hi Sonia!

I know just how you feel. It seems like the more I research, the more I found out about the next thing we need to avoid. Soy seems to be under attack right now, but I believe we all need to draw a line somewhere with what we abide by. I think you drinking soy milk is just fine for your health. I love that you sent in this page because I think tons of people feel the same way-- as soon as we make a solid, healthy change, another person tells us to change something else. Stick with it!
