I Lowered My Cholesterol Without Medicine

I lowered my cholesterol without medicine!

For several years before I went veg, I had high cholesterol - hovering around 209. In 2007, after another high cholesterol reading, my doctor told me that if my cholesterol was still high at my next physical, he would need to prescribe medication to lower it. Yikes! I was in my early 30s, and the thought of taking cholesterol-lowering meds for the rest of my life scared me a little.

I'd been toying with the idea of going veg anyway, and that visit to the doctor was the kick in the pants I needed! Starting on 07/04/2007, I went vegetarian. About 10 months later, I had another physical and my cholesterol had dropped to 154!! After that, I went all the way to vegan and my recent cholesterol screen was 149. All without any medication at all!! (Oh, and I dropped 20 lbs. Major Bonus!)

I've never felt better since going veg - and I haven't looked back. Sure, I slip up every once in a while, but I get right back on the wagon. I feel fabulous!!

The more stories we hear of lowering cholesterol by simply not eating any, the more the health industry will have to take notice. They need to stop prescribing medicine that simply covers the problem, and they need to start prescribing healthy diets! Good for you for dropping it to below 150. I have read that below 150, your chance of having a heart attack is so low as to be almost negligible. Thank you so much for sharing your inspiring story!
