For some, quitting cheese is as easy as just deciding to stop eating it. But, for many, it is a battle.
I personally had a really hard time with the idea of giving cheese up forever. I loved the different flavors of cheese and I used it in just about every dish I prepared and spread it on just about everything. So, what I did was simply take it a day at a time.
Every day I decided not to eat cheese that day. It wasn't always easy. I remember missing the smell of cheese, so I grabbed a chunk of it and just smelled away. I remember being a little bit embarrassed when I ordered food in restaurants, both because I didn't know exactly how to phrase what I wanted done, and because the people around me gave me odd looks.
It got easier over time, and the physical rewards of losing weight and gaining energy helped quite a bit. Whenever I felt even a little tempted by cheese, I would think of the animals. For me, it's always easier to stick to something if I'm doing it for more than myself. I can think of a veal calf stuck in a tiny crate and that's enough to cure the craving.
For others, the whole reason they quit cheese is for their health. Either they're lactose intolerant or suffering from a man-made disease linked to dairy consumption. They are done eating cheese because they want to lose weight and feel better. So, for them, the easiest way to break a craving is to think about how they'd feel if they ate a bunch of cheese.
This forum is for you, whichever side you're on. It can be hard to find support in a world where cheese is an accepted and exalted form of calcium and protein. Very few people know about the addictive properties of cheese, and they might not understand why you're quitting cheese.
We understand, and we're here for you.
