In 1999, the FDA starting allowing manufacturers to label soy protein powders as beneficial for preventing heart disease. Not surprisingly, people started buying them more and more after that. Soy powders can help improve the nutritional value of other foods, reduce the risk of heart related disease, and lower cholesterol.

So, should you get on the bandwagon?

Maybe, but first keep in mind that all foods are better for us in whole form rather than as supplements. Asian countries have been eating soy for thousands of years as their main protein source, but they eat it in the whole form like in tofu, tempeh, and miso. There is a large controversy taking place right now about the safety and effectiveness of soy in the diet.

Also, soy is one of the most commonly genetically modified plants on the market, and we have yet to learn all the dangers of genetically modified foods. Whenever possible, opt for organic, Non-GMO soy products.

Soy powder is great for use in smoothies, shakes, or sprinkled into oatmeal, cereal, and salads. Every brand makes a different flavor, so you might need to sample a few to find your favorite.

When you purchase from this page, you are actually purchasing from Amazon.com. All orders go through Amazon's secure order server.
