Welcome to the Vegan-Nutritionista.com subscriber group! Our newsletter focuses on helping you learn more about veganism and how to apply it to your daily life. Vegan Bytes is dedicated to keeping you up-to-date with the world of food, answering your vegan nutrition questions, and providing you with ideas on ways to spread your lifestyle beliefs.
More and more people read Vegan Bytes each month and part of that is thanks to you forwarding your friends my website. Thank you so much for your support. Since it's the start of a new year, many people are interested in getting back in shape and making this the year of health and happiness, so if you know someone who could use a little encouragement, send this along.
I'm assuming the answer is no. My answer is no, although I can't say that I necessarily care more about humans than animals.
Normally, if you've reached this point in a conversation with someone, he's pretty frustrated. He may have been unable to find a good response when you told him that you eat plenty of protein and calcium, and it's probably gotten to the stage where you've mentioned a few of the abuses on the average animal farm.
In that frustration, he's blurted out, "Oh I don't care about cows or pigs at all. I volunteer to help humans and care about humans. Why do you care more about animals than humans?"
I've only been at this stage of that conversation a few times in my life, mostly because I prefer to squash arguments and focus on the positive, and I don't engage with people who are just trying to push my buttons.
a) It is possible to care about all living beings equally. Most of the vegans I know are some of the most compassionate and empathetic people in the universe and care deeply about humans.
b) If people who say they don't care about farm animals knew the intelligence and emotions that farm animals have and could also witness what happens to them on factory farms, I think they would care.
c) If you care more about humans than animals, it's all the more reason to go vegan.
Non-vegan diets lead to more human suffering and create more illness and pain that vegan diets.
So, the real question becomes, has that person ever stopped to consider how his lifestyle impacts the human population?
The Amazing, Edible Avocado
Avocados endured a long period of time out by nutritionists who deemed them "high in fat" and recommended that they be avoided, but they're out of jail and making a comeback now. While it's true that they do pack a load of fat, it's really good fat that helps to maintain your weight, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, reduce arthritis pain, and possibly prevent cancers.
And, most importantly, they're absolutely delicious.

Question: "Why didn't my psychologist prescribe raw food?"
I will try to make this short, but I'm confused. I am 42 and suffered awful depression since I was 21. They say it's chemical depression, and so drugs work, but not very well.
I have tried everything to get better for years and nothing helped... I have been depressed, lethargic, tired, sleep patterns messed up, anxiety. I feel like garbage because depression effects the body too. I'm in good shape and don't overeat, but it doesn't matter.
Last week on a complete fluke I decided to try just one week eating only organic raw vegetables. ABSOLUTELY nothing else but the raw vegetarian diet, just to see what would happen. OMG! I'm on the 5th day doing this and I feel 70% better. My mood, my energy, my sleep patterns are all better. Why is this? I took in no protein so I should be flat worn out and half dead right?
Read the rest of Hensley's story about how her transformation to a raw vegetarian diet changed her life, and her question as to why she was never "prescribed" a vegan diet by her doctors.
Do you have a question about veganism? Perhaps it's something you always wondered, or even something other people always ask that you wish you could answer better. Join in the discussion on our site by asking and answering questions, as well as commenting on other answers. It's fun and helpful!

Vegan Essentials is one of my very favorite places to shop for vegan supplies. They have everything from clothes and shoes to vegan cheese, and their prices are the best around.
Amazon has really grown on me over the past decade or so. It no longer is just a resource for finding books, but now sells almost everything. Over the past few years, I've found more and more vegan-friendly supplies on amazon, including books, shoes, clothes, soymilk makers, soybeans, and so much more.
VitaMix is hands down the best blender on the market. I recommend it to anyone and everyone, and it's absolutely amazing... no exaggeration. In fact, the other day, I found myself taking a complete stranger to a section of a cooking store to show her the VitaMix and explain its benefits, just for pure fun!
You can make soups, ice cream, smoothies, whole fruit/vegetable juices, grind grains, make nut butters, grind ice, and so much more. I can remember life before the VitaMix and how frustrating it was to never get the exact consistency I wanted in my smoothies because the ice just wouldn't break up, and now I never give it a second thought. Highly recommended!
If you're a vegan nutritionista yourself and have always thought about running a blog with your vegan recipes, you should think about an SBI website. I would never have known how to start a website, let alone get Vegan Nutritionista to the successful place it is right now without Site Build It, and I can't recommend it enough. If you are passionate about anything, any hobby, lifestyle, food, drink, or culture, you can start a website about it. All you have to do is love it, research it, and learn to "talk" about it and SBI will guide you to making it financially successful.
I am an affiliate for these newsletter sponsors, so anytime someone buys something from these stores after using a link from our site, I make a small commission on it. But, I do promise that I would never recommend something that I don't use and love myself. So if you see a link on our site for something you like, you can support their company and the running of Vegan Nutritionista as well, or you can always choose to go directly to the company.
And don't forget, a percentage of all Vegan Nutritionista profits go to a rotating group of charities that benefit animals. This quarter we're giving money to Farm Sanctuary.
That's all for this month!! I hope you enjoyed reading it. Have a great month!
