We're on a mission to reach more people on facebook, so please come like us at facebook and share with your friends. You can see fun pictures of my travel adventures, favorite recipes, and links that I don't share on the website.
I just discovered (and became addicted to) Pinterest. If you haven't tried it, it's like an online visionboard where you can pin your favorite things on the internet onto different boards to keep track of them for later. It's amazing!
And, if you haven't visited Vegan Nutritionista.com since you signed up for this newsletter, you might not have seen an awesome new feature we have. You can now comment on any page on the site! You can link it to your facebook account so your friends can see what you have to say, and help them to help themselves with a healthier, more compassionate lifestyle.
It's the four-year anniversary of Vegan Nutritionista's birth! In the beginning it was just a concept; I wanted to share all the positive benefits of going vegan with as many people as possible. I've been touched and thrilled over the years to hear from so many of you about how your life is different now with your new lifestyle, and to hear about you passing it along to friends and family members.
This last year has been busy-- I have spent a lot of time going through old pages and updating with new and better information. I also added a few new ebooks to the collection, and have more ideas on the horizon for the coming year.
After listening to what you want, I'm adding three new sections to the monthly newsletter; 1) the book of the month, 2) a vegan product of the month, and 3) a vegan travel section, which will include restaurant reviews and tips on travel. I'm super excited to add more categories to our newsletter and I hope you like it too!
In a few weeks I'm going to change the template of Vegan Nutritionista.com. Don't worry-- it's not going to affect anything you do on the site; searching, posting questions, answering questions, and everything else will be the same. It's just going to look prettier. If you follow me on facebook or twitter, I'll let you know when the changes go live and you can let me know what you think.
How Much Vitamin B12 Do You Need?
When you tell someone you're vegan, you'll usually get the common "where do you get your protein?" and "do you get enough calcium?" questions. If you've done even a little bit of reading on the subject, you know those are non-issues for people who eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. Every once in a while you might get a question about vitamin B12 from a more informed person, and answering that concern may not be as straightforward.
On the one hand, vegans do not have a true plant form of vitamin B12 On the other, we do have quite a few foods that are supplemented with B12, and we also have a variety of vegan vitamin B12 supplements.
But, how much vitamin B12 do you need? And, is there truly a risk of developing a vitamin B12 deficiency? Find out now to make sure you are fully protected.
Nutritional Spotlight: Mushrooms and Their Magical Cancer-Fighting Powers
Mushrooms don't get a lot of air time in the nutritional circuit. In fact, it's easy to assume that they are just another "vegetable" that doesn't really provide many nutrients. It turns out that there are incredible benefits of eating mushrooms that can help you guard against serious diseases. Don't miss this article if you have the big C word in your family history.
"What are some simple changes I can make for more energy?"
In preparation for summer (and to just be healthier) I'm looking for a few simples changes to my diet that I can make immediately to impact my energy levels and help fuel me during intense workouts.
I've just gotten interested in juicing. Are there big gains made here? If so what would you recommend. Also, what are some things I can incorporate into my daily diet that can help me increase my energy levels? (After reading Born to Run I'm thinking about ordering chia seeds)
I'd like to stay away from supplements and take a more natural route. And help would be great. Thanks.
This is a really common reason that many people have when they decide to change their diets. The fact is, our bodies are not supposed to crash a few hours after breakfast, in the middle of the afternoon, or right after eating a meal. We should have plenty of energy throughout the entire day, and it should decline as we get ready for bed.
Check out these simple dietary changes for more energy and start feeling better today.

Recipe of the Month: Chinese Style Vegan Beef with Broccoli
When I was a really little kid, I was always really particular about meat and had rules about what I would eat (no bloody things, no pieces of fat or hard things, etc). I think it was the initial stages of me realizing that I was eating living animals that had been cooked, and that didn't match up with my beliefs.
Anyhow, one meat dish that I remember actually enjoying was beef with broccoli. I don't think my mom made it too often, but I remember liking it. On the day I decided to make my own version, it had probably been 20 years since I've even thought about that dinner, although I'd had versions of it in vegan restaurants.
It turns out it's really easy to make your own "beef" with broccoli, especially now thanks to Gardein beefless tips. It's so close to the taste of texture of meat that it actually freaks me out, and thus, I rarely cook or eat it. However, it's amazing for people transitioning out of a meat-based diet into a plant-based diet, and it's fun once in a while for the rest of us.
Check out my recipe for Chinese "beef" with broccoli here.
Book of the Month: Chloe's Kitchen
I received a review copy of Chloe's Kitchen, written by Chloe Coscarelli, the first vegan chef to win Food Network's Cupcake Wars. I have a LOT of cookbooks, and I value all of them in different ways, but I have to say that this book instantly made it to the favorites stack.
Read all about Chloe's Kitchen, and feel free to share your own reviews if you've tried any of her recipes.
Vegan Product of the Month: Vegan Earth Shoes
In this first edition of the vegan products section of the newsletter, I want to share a practical yet totally cute way to veganize your outfits with these vegan Earth shoes. Some months we'll focus on good vegan treats, other months it might be a favorite cooking appliance or amazing toiletry.

Vegan Essentials is one of my very favorite places to shop for vegan supplies. They have everything from clothes and shoes to vegan cheese, and their prices are the best around.
Amazon has really grown on me over the past decade or so. It no longer is just a resource for finding books, but now sells almost everything. Over the past few years, I've found more and more vegan-friendly supplies on amazon, including books, shoes, clothes, soymilk makers, soybeans, and so much more.
VitaMix is hands down the best blender on the market. I recommend it to anyone and everyone, and it's absolutely amazing... no exaggeration. In fact, the other day, I found myself taking a complete stranger to a section of a cooking store to show her the VitaMix and explain its benefits, just for pure fun!
You can make soups, ice cream, smoothies, whole fruit/vegetable juices, grind grains, make nut butters, grind ice, and so much more. I can remember life before the VitaMix and how frustrating it was to never get the exact consistency I wanted in my smoothies because the ice just wouldn't break up, and now I never give it a second thought. Highly recommended!
If you're a vegan nutritionista yourself and have always thought about running a blog with your vegan recipes, you should think about an SBI website. I would never have known how to start a website, let alone get Vegan Nutritionista to the successful place it is right now without Site Build It, and I can't recommend it enough. If you are passionate about anything, any hobby, lifestyle, food, drink, or culture, you can start a website about it. All you have to do is love it, research it, and learn to "talk" about it and SBI will guide you to making it financially successful.
I am an affiliate for these newsletter sponsors, so anytime someone buys something from these stores after using a link from our site, I make a small commission on it. But, I do promise that I would never recommend something that I don't use and love myself. So if you see a link on our site for something you like, you can support their company and the running of Vegan Nutritionista as well, or you can always choose to go directly to the company.
And don't forget, a percentage of all Vegan Nutritionista profits go to a rotating group of charities that benefit animals. This quarter we're giving money to Farm Sanctuary.
That's all for this month!! I hope you enjoyed reading it. Have a great month!
