I've been a vegetarian for about 20 years. I started putting on a phenomenal amount of weight about five years ago and couldn't for the life of me figure out why. GMO soy stops thyroid function.
When I read Dr. Mercola's blog about Soya and how it can stop thyroid function, I had a big epiphany!
I have now stopped ALL Soya products, and my weight is finally balancing out. I've added iodine drops to my diet too, as this is said to help restore the thyroid.
I've also now gone Vegan, and WOW! What a great way to feel. I was trying to make up for the soy protein with dairy and eggs. What a mistake! I felt like a slug! (what ever a slug feels like) LOL
Hope it's ok for me to put this title on here. It's from Dr. Mercola's web page - if anyone wants to read this advice. Sure worked for me - cutting out soy.

P.S. Virtually all mass produced breads now have soy flour added to them. This makes a lot of profit for the manufacturers as is very cheap. Great - GMO wheat and GMO Soy.
