Going vegan during eating disorder recovery

by Amber

I've been stuck in an eating disorder relapse for a month now or so. I've been wanting to go vegan for a long time (I've been vegetarian for almost a year, I had to take a break for a few years but before that I had been vegetarian for five years.) I've been restricting my calories to 200-500 a day and I know that's bad but I feel like veganism really could be the answer to my questions, I feel like it could help me recover.

My issue is my weight though, I'm in the healthy weight range for my height but I still have a lot of visible body fat, like a lot.. I'm afraid if I transition to a vegan diet, I will gain weight because of the restriction my body is used to. Is this true? Is it possible for me to lose weight after I transition? That's the only thing stopping me and I'm hesitant to change my lifestyle because of this. Thank you for your time!

get my parents to let me be vegan
by: Anna

I came from anorexia recovery and when I was at that stage I asked my parents to become vegetarian. They said no. I tried to convince them, explain my reasons, heard theirs. They're just opposed to it, they're convinced that the protein sources just come from animal products and they won't listen what I have to say. They think that my opinion changed just because I was anorexic and that I asked because of the fat, but really, it is not and I've told them billions of times that it isn't because of the damn fat. I don't know what to do. I feel so bad after eating meat, it's as if I had the dead animal in my mouth. Please, help.

Losing fat while in eating disorder recovery?
by: Haley

So basically, I've recently reached recovery with my eating disorder- I used to eat around 1,000 calories a day and burn off around 1,200 with exercise. I was still vegan, but I restricted severely and lost insane amounts of weight. Now I'm in a good place and I have gained lots of muscle, but also some fat. I'd like to lose the fat now but I really don't wanna restrict calories as I'm afraid of falling back into my disorder. I also don't wanna lose WEIGHT, only fat. I already don't weigh very much.
And yes, I do eat the right foods. Whole fruits and veggies, good grains, etc... any tips?
