It was a slow enough journey for me but once I gathered all my information I wholeheartedly embraced a plant-based vegan diet and haven't looked back since.
You see, since the age of 14 I've suffered with a chronic and very painful condition called endometriosis. I would regularly spend a week in bed unable to do anything because of the pain and depression. Endometriosis also seems to be linked to autoimmune like problems so along with the cramps and bowel issues I had regular colds and flush!
By the time I reached 30 I had pretty much had enough. A good friend told me: "you know a vegan diet is great for endometriosis and would really help you." I believed him but it all just seemed so alien and impossible to achieve. He recommended a book, "The China Study", which I read and still refer back to! This book is a must read for anyone considering going vegan.
Over time I educated myself further with research on the endo diet, documentaries like "Forks over Knives" and "Vegucated". I'm so thankful to the people that have put time and effort into educating us in this area from physicians to nutritionists and blogs such as this. Not only has it helped me make the change but it keeps me motivated.
Unfortunately not everyone likes it when you go vegan and sometimes due to insecurity you'll get a lot of negative and critical remarks. Don't let it stop you! Your health and your life is more important. I can testify to that - someone who by the age of 30 spent about 3 weeks of every month sick and often in bed, at the age of 40 I now have a full and active life with very little pain and restriction. So my advice... do your research, make the change, get and stay motivated and enjoy the best quality of life you possibly can - take your life back now! 😊
